Zamia Phylogeny!
A paper outlining the evolutionary history of the neotropical cycad genus Zamia has recently been published in the International Journal of Plant Sciences. The paper was led by MBC’s cycad biologist Michael Calonje as part of his Ph.D. dissertation at Florida International University along with co-authors from several institutions including the U.S.D.A., Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, Instituto de Ecología A.C. (Xalapa, Mexico), University of Zurich (Switzerland), and Dalhousie University (Nova Scotia, Canada).
The paper, freely available at the link below, is the most species-comprehensive, well-resolved hypothesis of phylogenetic relationships within Zamia and provides a strong phylogenetic framework for further studies.
