Can palms help make architecture more “green?”

A fascinating new student project explores that question. John Correa, one of our 2019-2020 Conservation Horticulture Fellows, studied how palm leaves reflect and trap heat, and applied these findings to  help reduce energy costs. With extensive data collection, detailed computer modelling, and a physical scale model, John presented his findings at an outdoor slideshow.

The Conservation Horticulture Fellows Program is generously funded by the Batchelor Foundation and Mrs. Christiane Tyson. Since 2011, this program has trained a large of number of early-career conservationists for the South Florida community.
